Blending jazz, synthesizer sounds, afrobeats and drum machine dubs, Jimi Tenor created a distinctive sound often resembling free-fowing, sporadic sketches, with a touch of the absurd.
Jimi Tenor has been making music professionally since early 90’s when his first solo album Sahkomies (Sahko) was released. That album included the song Take Me Baby, which became a hit thanks to Berlin Love Parade final concert in 1995.
Jimi Tenor signed to Warp records which made him familiar with audiences around the globe.
In 2019 during the corona pandemic Jimi started a new band: Jimi Tenor Band. The members are Heikki Tuhkanen-tuba and trombone, Lauri Kallio-guitar and bass, Ekow Alabi Savage on percussion and Eeti Nieminen-drums. All band members sing as well.
The group performs Jimi Tenor’s material especially from the Philophon albums Order of Nothingness and Aulos. Philopohon label is concentrated in releasing african and african influenced music.
Jimi Tenor band will also play a variety of tracks from many Jimi Tenor albums. From Intervision, Inspiration Information with Tony Allen, Organism and some new unreleased material the group is working on. Jimi’s music fuses space-rock, jazz and african beats. Perhaps somewhere in the mix is also Finnish melancholia.
